The Helicon Poetry Society, which has been active since 1990, is the longest running and most experienced poetry organization working in Israel today. It is known for its high professional standard and comprehensive grasp of the literary field, which allows Helicon to develop a diverse array of actions and maintain an effective presence within Israeli society.
These actions include:
• Poetry writing courses with experienced teachers and a unique pedagogy.
• International multi-lingual translation workshops.
• Sha'ar International Poetry Festival. (Which started as an Arab-Jewish festival)- bringing poets from over 15 nationalities around the world together every year.
- Helicon Publishing Center - books and poetry journals.
• Poetry on the Map - Promoting poetry, language and culture in the geo-social periphery of Israel.
• Poetry and Education - the development of poetry as a method for learning and education in formaland informal educational frameworks.
