Shoulder to Shoulder, a not-for-profit organization established in 2005, provides a multi-dimensional solution to families facing socio-economic challenges at a minimal cost and with a maximal use of available resources. These include families who have fallen victim to poverty in the last several years, recently-arrived immigrant families, and single adults.
We see each family as a small world with its own needs, desires, and ambitions. We treat the family holistically, with guidance from a variety of professional staff members, including a social worker, educators, a psychologist, academicians, and a municipal welfare representative who advise the mentoring families.
Shoulders to Shoulder's four central measures of success are:
- Quality of life: food, clothing, furniture, home maintenance;
- Effective management: plans for improving household finances;
- Education: cultural enrichment programs, tutoring, library memberships, parenting courses;
- Employment: professional training
