Established in 2021, Radical - House for Ideas Ltd. (Radical), is an NGO which brings together young people around Israel and unites them around a common goal, rallying them to create social change, specifically regarding the global climate crisis. At a time when young people have increasingly lost faith in the political system in Israel, Radical aims to create a new liberal Israeli narrative, capable of attracting and mobilizing a wide, young audience to join together and take part in charting a different future for the state.
Radical’s goal is to become a breeding ground of ideas for a young, liberal Israeli public that does not want to escape from reality, but to change it. More and more young people in Israel, and around the world, suffer from climate anxiety, extreme cost of living, and a loss of trust in the democratic political system. Radical was established to create hope and offer solutions to all of these challenges – today's major crises – through a new, liberal Israeli narrative. To that end, Radical publishes groundbreaking, short and accessible books and magazine articles, distributes content on its social media networks, and hosts events that create a sense of solidarity and build community among young, liberal Israelis with a shared ideology.
Radical’s publishing house translates, prints and distributes books that have inspired millions around the world, in order to light sparks in the eyes, minds and hearts of readers here in Israel and promote public discourse of groundbreaking ideas. To date, Radical has translated, published, and launched David Attenborough’s A Life on Our Planet; Thich Nhat Hanh’s Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet, Jason Hickel’s Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World; and Rutger Bregman’s Utopia for Realists. Five more book launches are planned for 2023. In May 2022, Radical hosted a successful Climate Film Festival, with the next one scheduled for April 2023. Radical also publishes an online magazine featuring short articles with new, intriguing ideas for paths towards the future.
Radical's work in these arenas is designed to build a community of readers and friends that is united around our new story; a new liberal public in Israel that shares the same ideological basis which acts – and votes – in its light. In recent years, due to political instability and repeat elections, many young people in Israel have lost trust in the political system. Rather than taking action and becoming more involved, many have simply disengaged. By making accessible inspiring ideas from all over the word, Radical aims to create a new, progressive Israeli discourse and reality.
To date, Radical has been funded and supported by Kanaf and private donors.
In the past four years alone, the Israeli public has had to contend with five national elections, leaving many distrustful of the political system and doubtful of their ability to effect change or impact their day-to-day life. Radical - House of Ideas, was founded in 2021 to unite young people in Israel around social change ideals and issues central to their lives. By powering them with hope, optimism, progressive ideas, and a community forum, Radical provides a powerful platform for young people to connect, to inspire and be inspired, and to create a better tomorrow. By focusing on issues such as climate change and the environment, the effects of technology, social impact, economics and political systems, Radical works to empower young people to create the change they wish to see in the world.
Radical is cultivating a new generation of young people through a host of projects. Radical translates and publishes groundbreaking books and publications from around the world and shares them with new audiences. From its bustling urban space in Tel Aviv, Beit Radical hosts events and leadership training, and runs its Social Action Network, which translates the ideas presented in its books into local and national policies and activi
