Shiluv is an Israeli non-profit organization which promotes the emotional well-being of families by providing couples and family therapy to clients from all ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds.
Shiluv also offers specialized services in the fields of divorce mediation, trauma treatment, child-parent psychotherapy with young children who have experienced traumatic events, and sexual abuse/incest treatment from a family therapy approach. In addition, Shiluv’s prestigious professional training program prepares the next generation of Israeli family therapists by providing them with the skills to enhance the lives of couples and families. Family therapy has been shown to be one of the most effective treatment approaches for a broad range of emotional, social and behavioral problems experienced by children, adolescents and adults. Since its inception, Shiluv has provided couples and family therapy to approximately 13,000 clients. Shiluv provides its services on a sliding fee scale. Although Shiluv subsidizes approximately 35% of the total cost of therapy fees each year, at least 50 potential couples and families (which signifies up to approximately 300 potential clients) do not follow through with the referral process on an annual basis due to financial difficulties. This number does not include those clients who never approach Shiluv because of dire financial circumstances and who are unable to allow themselves the ‘luxury’ of therapy.
