To make Israel a better place for people with intellectual disabilities: a warm, inclusive & respectful society, enabling self-actualization & offering equal opportunity while recognizing diversity. Our unique programs include community living, vocational programs & placement, IDF service, educational and after-school programs, summer camps, dental care, legal services, self-advocacy much more. AKIM is a true national organization serving Israel's periphery with 1,050 employees, and 1,000 volunteers, operating 68 branches in the Jewish, Arab and Druze sectors. Person-centered approach: AKIM advocates for all people with disabilities based on the premise that each person has autonomy to make decisions for her/himself and belong to a community. Democratic governance: AKIM operates as a democratic organization where leadership of the national board, and of the 68 branches are elected every four years.
