About

The Israel Center for Excellence through Education & The Israel Arts and Science Academy bring innovative change to classroom education with a high school for gifted students and teacher training for educators throughout Israel and beyond The Israel Center for Excellence through Education (NGO) and its flagship program The Israel Arts and Science Academy are bringing systemic and innovative change to education in Israel. The bedrock of our programs is the ‘Classroom of Excellence’, an approach that facilitates creative and abstract thinking, dynamic self-assessment, a passionate curiosity, a willingness to err, and interdisciplinary learning, foundational skills for 21st century leaders in all fields. The Israel Arts and Science Academy The Israel Arts and Science Academy (IASA) provides an exceptional education for exceptional students—a residential high school in Jerusalem built on academic concentrations in music, studio art, science, and the humanities where students learn from a world-class faculty of musicians, artists, scientists, and thinkers. Between 250 and 300 gifted and talented students are immersed in a full-time (6 or 7 day-a-week) formal and informal learning schedule, accompanied by weekly volunteering in the community. IASA is particularly committed to recruiting students from the socioeconomic periphery and minority communities, admitted based solely on merit, motivation, and a thirst for knowledge and representing the full mosaic of Israeli society. For gifted students from families of limited finances, attendance at IASA is a door into an education that changes their lives immeasurably. ICEE Teacher Trainings The other side of ICEE operations leverages our expertise throughout Israel and beyond in creating classrooms and schools of “excellence”—from nuanced pedagogical techniques to cultivating a school-wide culture. ICEE Teacher Trainings impacts the quality and content of classroom education through developing and operating training programs for science and math teachers of both high-achieving and grade-level students. Often in collaboration with the Israel Ministry of Education and other institutions, our largest training initiatives are Mitchell Excellence 2000 (in Israel and overseas) and Al-Ma-Da (Israel, typically includes lab equipment), serving 350 teachers and their classes this school year. With a focus on schools serving communities in the geographic and socioeconomic periphery, both Jewish and non-Jewish alike, ICEE Programs operate in both Jewish and non-Jewish Israeli public school networks throughout the country.
