The goal of Mala (Merkaz Arvut L’tovat Hayeled, with the acronym “upward”) is to promote the best interests of the child in families involved in dispute, separation, or divorce proceedings. At the micro level, Mala provides interventions ranging from fostering the preservation of "intact" or "one-home" families where possible, to promoting the best possible outcome to separation and its aftermath. It especially aims to support the “captive” children of these families until the age of 35 and even more. At the macro level, from a non-gendered and professional position, Mala stresses the role and responsibility not only of the two parents, but also of the institutions of the State. In accordance to this position, Mala actively advocates for improving Israeli policies, laws, regulations and procedures for the sake of the children.
