Established in 2018 Mifrasim (the Hebrew word for ‘sails’) is an innovative social NGO that utilizes therapeutic sail training voyages, using a large sailing boat as a platform to empower vulnerable populations, mainly suffering from trauma and loss.
Our vision is to be the leading organization in Israel for implementing social change processes, through group maritime journeys, with a commitment to professionalism, humanism, friendship, and community.
Our theory of change is based on the Adventure Therapy method. Participants in the voyages step out of their comfort zones in order to acquire personal and team skills through a group maritime journey with others.
With the help of a qualified therapist and professional marine crew they disconnect from the daily distractions and embark on an emotional journey, while hosting the sails, performing seamanship tasks and dealing with the forces of nature in the open sea, both individually and as a group. The therapist emphasizes core values such as resilience, positive communication, self-confidence, and dialogue thus
We currently operate the following programs:
• Support and resilience for bereaved families
• Trauma- post-trauma therapy for terrorism victims,
• Processing combat experiences
• Youth (leadership and at-risk youth)
• Working with young adults and adults on the spectrum All our programs are agile and tailored for each group.
Mifrasim is managed by the founding Director, Mr. Yosale Dror, along with a small professional team, a devoted Board led by Dr. Ehud Netzer, and more than 70 active volunteers who share a love of the sea and a passion for social change. Since its inception in 2018, 7,400+ people have participated in therapeutic life-changing voyages.
