“Hiram” at Kibbutz Harduf, located in the Galilee in Israel, is a rehabilitation center for young adults suffering from varying degrees of mental illness. Hiram has been operating successfully since 2001. We offer a comprehensive rehabilitation process for mentally ill 18-35 year-olds with high motivation and potential who are eager to return to a normal lifestyle which includes working and maintaining a social life. Hiram is currently serving over 140 residents with a staff of over 100 professionals.
Our rehabilitation approach is designed to create a fundamental change in the residents’ lives as they acquire vital social tools and employment capabilities.
Hiram’s mission is to restore our residents, through an intensive 3-year rehabilitation process, to a normative highly-functioning lifestyle. During these 3-year program the rehabilitants are dealing with their most inner issues while working on acquiring capabilities and achievements on the external level. The joining of the four rehabilitating forces: (i) rich communal and social life; (ii) work; (iii) art; and the (iv) therapeutic process intensify the rehabilitation effect and enable a significant change in their lives in a relatively short term.
The professional team combines the four rehabilitation forces under one umbrella and provide to the rehabilitants within the program a comprehensive envelop that contains their deepest pains and wounds. After concluding the 3-years program Hiram enables the rehabilitants that need it a supporting environment while gradually returning to live normative life through living in a ‘protected housing’ program in the area with supportive circles of employment and meaningful activities during leisure time.
Our residents suffer from various mental disorders and many come to us with a history of repeated hospitalizations in mental health institutions and suicide attempts. Hiram has expertise in addressing the needs of people with border-line disorders, a growing phenomenon which the existing institutions in Israel fail to address satisfactorily.

In Hiram we believe that gainful employment is one of the main pillars in the rehabilitation process. Hiram operates a high-quality employment system featuring several aspects such as: acquiring proper work habits, professional training, and fostering entrepreneurship. These provide our residents with a full range of training and empowerment tools towards a genuine recovery from the crises they have undergone, with emphasis on enabling them to regain autonomy and independence.

We’re dealing these days with few significant and outstanding projects that their implementation requires support from external resources:
A social and employment center - after concluding their 3-years program in Hiram many of the rehabilitants chose to move to a ‘protected housing’ program in a nearby town (Kiriat Tivon). Hiram has identified their need for a social and communal anchor that was so significant for them while they stayed in Hiram. Hiram has rented in a big building with a long lease and is reconstructing it to serve as a social and employment center for rehabilitants from the whole area, Jews and Arabs, and a place for integration and inclusion with the normative communities in the neighborhood.
The caring house – in the light of the recent reform in the psychiatric space in Israel, Hiram together with leading figured in the psychiatric field and a leading HMO established a ‘caring house’ - a facility that is not a hospital, dedicated to treat patients going through a ‘first psychotic attack’ with the purpose of helping them avoid psychiatric hospitalization.
Since 7/10/23 Hiram is launching special programs for survivers in collaboration with Open Dialogue Israel
