makor - music for Youth at risk

Makor is a non profit organization that initiates, creates and enables activities that improve the lives of youth at risk, through the use of music, and also promotes original musical enterprise with special social and/or cultural significance. Makor's activities stem from the profound belief and acknowledgement that music has the power to create change. Music gives the underserved teenager, growing up in a disadvantaged community, a meaningful anchor in his or her life. Music helps them feel empowered and also connects these teenagers to the community around them. Music based education enables these youths to channel the difficulties and conflicts that they experience in their own lives, into normative social directions by emotional release of feelings and conflicts. The organization is guided by the mission of giving every teenager the possibility to engage with music, to create and be part of a community of individuals for whom music is part of their soul.
