SHAMIR was founded in 1972 by Olim from the FSU to strengthen Jewish identity in the USSR, to encourage Aliya and , upon arrival, to help fellow Russian-speaking Olim acclimate to Israeli life, educationally, professionally, and socially. Our main activities: 1. Employment opportunity information . 2. Informal education- a monthly review of Jewish topics sent to 3000 families and available on the internet; Guest appearances by our director on Russian TV and radio, and lectures. 3. Publishing Russian-language Judaic books (since 1972) for private and public education.
