To break the cycle of poverty and empower Jerusalem by promoting civic responsibility, equal opportunity and social mobility, and to foster a network of young social leaders in Israel.
The Bakehila programs support children throughout the day, both in and out of school through: - Classroom assistance for 4th to 8th grade students. Our service-year volunteers (Shinshinim) assist children with their Math, Hebrew, and English skills. - Learning and Enrichment Centers where each child receives assistance with homework and participates in enrichment classes in areas such as art, sports, and nature. - Promoting youth leadership and responsibility through activities operated in cooperation with the Community Board and the Youth Unit at the Jerusalem municipalities. - Assisting parents through workshops, discussions facilitated on topics related to adolescence, visits from Shinshinim, parent-child activities, and open house events at the local Learning Center. - Offering classes covering a wide range of subjects to guide the Shinshinim. We hope to empower our Shinshinim, and nurture their civil leadership and activism skills.
