Operation Ethiopia

To provide quality Eyecare, including treatment for and prevention of blindness and eye disease to poor people in Ethiopia. Additionally, we continue to facilitate humanitarian aid to the Jews in Ethiopia, which was our founding cause. We are a humanitarian organization that started from a family volunteer trip to Ethiopia, at the suggestion of our four children when they were 11-16 years old. We spent one week volunteering in Addis Ababa and in the Jewish community of Gondar and what we saw and experienced changed our lives. Severely malnourished children, no medical care, and unimaginable poverty. We returned home DEEPLY affected by our experience, and decided to do something about it. The following summer we returned - this time loaded with medical equipment, eye medications and eyeglasses that we purchased ourselves, and we set up our first mobile eye-clinic in the Gondar Jewish compound. We treated hundreds of patients that trip. We have expanded ever since and now provide a range of programs that support our mission of bringing quality eyecare, preventative care, and treatment of blindness and eye disease to poor people in Ethiopia, including in the Jewish community. We also started and co-run with SSEJ a feeding program for malnourished children in the Gondar Jewish community.
