TALI Education Fund (TEF) sponsors a nation-wide network of Israeli public schools that have made Jewish education a high educational priority. Growing rapidly, TALI schools today comprise 10% of all (secular) elementary schools in Israel.
TALI (Hebrew acronym for “enriched Jewish Studies”) network of schools provides a pluralistic Jewish studies program to more than 38,000 children in close to 200 public schools and pre-schools throughout Israel. Jews in Israel are divided along religious and secular fault-lines – which tears at the fabric of Israeli society. For sixty years, this division has been fostered by Israel’s school system, which operates only two educational streams: religious and secular. Yet most Jewish Israelis see themselves not Orthodox nor secular, but traditional. They identify with Jewish culture and heritage, but feel alienated by a politicized religious establishment. By sending their children to secular public schools, Israeli parents have forfeited their children’s right to a Jewish education. TALI offers the middle-way for Jewish education in the secular Israeli classroom by connecting pupils with their Jewish heritage and by educating towards religious pluralism in the Jewish State.
