FOJ appeals to youth through responsibility, social involvement and Juha as a role-model. Juha's characte Friends of Juha was founded with a mission of empowering youth through action. By creating success oriented opportunities for youth to impact their communities, we strive to inspire our future generations to take responsibility, excel and act for their community – each individual in his own way. Our programming occurs both during school and after school allowing our counselors to mentor and empower teenagers in different settings, thus creating a unique bond and experience for the youth, empowering them. Major Juha Kalangel OBM, was an admired officer who served as a company commander in the Givati brigade. His commanders, comrades and subordinates all remember him as an officer who put others well being above his own. He brought this to bear off base as well. While on leave he did not focus his time only on himself and family but would engage his community, encouraging teenagers to enlist and helped to arrange financial aid for the families of his soldiers of limited means. Juha fell in the line of duty January 28, 2015.
